The first-ever Los Angeles-area PRIDE parade was held on June 28, 1970 to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the drag-queen-led rebellion at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. The Stonewall incident is considered the beginning of the modern-day LGBT equal rights movement, and is celebrated each year by festivals across the country. The 40th annual LA PRIDE Parade is gathered over 400,000 people this year and featured over 125 parade entries including floats, bands, performances, marching community advocacy groups, smiling seniors, proud parents, out teachers and convertibles with honored guests. The parade runs west along Santa Monica Blvd. from Crescent Heights to Robertson Blvds. The 2010 parade took place Sunday, June 13, starting at 11:00 a.m.
