This was the first Southern California Spring Fox Hunt. It was held Saturday, April 24th, 2010. The Hunt’s have evolved, but on this day, the schedule and rules were:
The Fox Hunt is a social event that combines critter and pony play in a fun day out.
Purpose of the hunt, as with all events is to have FUN!!
The hunt is based at a campsite in the Los Angeles National Forest, details will be provided to registered attendees. Photographers and volunteers are welcome to attend and help out. There is no cost to take part but we do ask people to bring their own camping gear and food as well as something to contribute to the pot luck dinner.
Schedule for for Fox Hunt Day Events
11 am – Trainers, ponies and hounds assemble for a traditional toast to begin the festivities.
Organize the hunters and release the fox/foxes. We aim to have more than 1 trail for the fall hunt.
11:30 am The Hunt begins
The dogs/critters are released next to find the fox, following the trail the fox has laid.
The ponies and “riders” follow the dogs.
The idea is that the dogs/critters encircle the fox after the dog/critter that finds the fox tags him/her, and they all bark to bring the ponies and “riders” to the scene. The fox is de-tailed.
Being a social event, the hunt is followed by a pot luck dinner together and a Good-bye Toast. Awards for the Hunt are then handed out.
